Answers to some Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to break in a pair of Dayton boots?
Depending on the specific leather utilized in your Daytons, it could take anywhere from 2 hours to 3 months. For example, the chrome leathers used in the Black Beauty Collection or the Classic Engineers are selected for durability and require a significant investment of time and wear before they are "broken in." On the other hand, the oil tanned leathers utilized in products like the Confederate Series may only require a few hours of wear before enjoying years of comfortable use.
What do I use to treat my boots?
Ideally Ok Oil but if you don’t have access to that, anything that contains all natural ingredients. Please no animal fats, silicone-based products, or shoe polish.
What widths do your boots come in?
D, E, EE, EEE
Can I use insoles in my boots?
Yes, just be sure to remove your insoles from time to time to allow your boots and insoles to air out and breathe.
How do I dry my boots once they get wet?
Do NOT put them in front of the heater, fireplace or direct source of heat. Lay them sideways and let them air dry naturally.
How waterproof are my boots?
The leathers used in Dayton Boots are built to help withstand the elements and if properly maintained and treated with OK Oil, on a regular basis, they will repel the water. However it is important to note, that unless your Daytons have a "waterproof" designation (usually requiring a waterproof membrane), they will not be totally waterproof.
Can my boots be re-soled?
Yes, one of the principal advantages of a genuine welted construction is that your boots can be re-soled as long as the leather stays well conditioned. Our shoemakers need to be able to pull the leather over the last (mold). If the leather is dry and not conditioned, it will crack and deteriorate leaving little material to attach the new sole.
Do your boots have a warranty?
All Daytons carry a limited lifetime manufacturers warranty against manufacturing defects. This warranty does NOT cover soles, heels and wear and tear.
Are there boots available for women?
Yes, all of our boots can be sized down for women. Dayton will also continue to develop styles exclusively for women.
Can I polish my boots?
No. Shoe polish clogs the pores of the leather and leather needs to breathe. Only use natural ingredients on your boots; No animal fats or silicone/alcohol based products. We recommend you use OK Oil.
Do you have a CSA approved work boot?
For Spring and Summer of 2008 we plan to introduce a CSA approved steel-toe work boot collection.
How do I clean my boots?
Clean your boots with a clean dry cloth or by applying a small amount of OK Oil to a dry cloth and wipe down your boots to remove any excess dirt.
